Buying a house is one of the main pillars of the American dream. Nevertheless, sometimes we just want to go someplace else. However, if we already own a house, we have to sell it, right?
Even though as Chicago movers we do not have experience in selling a house, we have helped quite a few people with moving out of a house they’d sold. Along the way we have picked up a few tips that we are going to share with you today. Ready? Let’s check them out!
Tip #1: Repaint
Having a fresh coat of paint on your walls can do wonders for the entire place. Why? Because it refreshes your home, gives it a brighter look (depending on your choice of colors) and makes it look new. Naturally, that would increase the price.
This tip is wonderful, because you don’t need to do much and it doesn’t cost a lot. You can handle it yourself, as there are plenty of guides online. And even if you botch the wall, you can go over it again. Seriously, it’s so cheap you can make mistakes without worries.
Tip #2: Explore Minimalism
Interestingly enough, a place that is stuffed with items does not look as appealing. People tend to feel claustrophobic and naturally stay away from clutter. This is even more surprising when you learn that even though most people do not like clutter in other places, they will clutter their own in no time.
Our tip is to get rid of clutter (we can help you with packing it and transferring it somewhere else). Even though this may not increase the price of your place, it makes it more appealing to buyers. An emptier place also gives the impression of being more spacious so it may still have a beneficial effect on the price.
Tip #3: Take Care Of The Outside
We may say “Don’t judge a book by its cover” all day long, but truthfully, this is exactly what people do. So if your façade is not up to par, you have to take care of it. Mow the lawn, take care of the hedges (if there are any), figure out if the front of your house needs any work. Small things such as these go a long way.
Bonus Tip: Fix Any Issues Preemptively
We know that people like to put off fixes until there is already a buyer, or not carry them out at all (just reducing the price to accommodate for that). However, that really does you a disservice. People do not want to deal with fixing appliances, the HVAC system, utilities and so on when they buy a house. If you take care of these things beforehand, you are more likely to sell your place.
Conclusion
These little tips can help you make your home more appealing to future buyers. And remember, whenever you are ready to move, H2H Movers are here to give you a hand!
