Let me ask you – is moving your favorite thing? Is it even remotely close? Okay, would you say that you do not like it very much at all? If you are like most people, moving is definitely a bothersome task for you. But you have got to do it one way or another, right?
At that point many people start to consider whether it is better to go with professional Chicago movers, or instead choose the DIY route. You know what? We are not going to convince you that paying for movers is the right choice for you. Even if we are a moving company, our first and foremost goal is to help you. So we will give you our best advice on how to approach the DIY move so it can be successful. Or you can at least determine if it is the right choice for you. Let’s go!
Start With A Plan
Before you even consider a DIY move, you have to know that it involves a lot of planning and preparation. You may save money, but you will definitely spend time. Sometimes this is very disproportionate, especially if you are new to the whole thing.
If you have never had a DIY move before, you have to do your research. There are certain things that can go wrong and you need to prepare for them. For example, you need to schedule all the little details around the move – like work leave, apartment leases, etc. Then you have to figure out renting a truck for the exact day of the move, and perhaps even ask friends for help.
Remember the saying – if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. So go out there and spend some time researching the most important aspects of a do it yourself kind of move.
What About Packing?
One of the most time-consuming aspects of the move is packing. This is especially the case for people who have no idea how to do it. Interestingly enough, packing is not as easy as stuffing things into boxes and calling it a day. You have to actually know what you are doing.
This means that more time has to be spent researching this topic as well. Make sure to also learn a thing or two about moving supplies, and most importantly – packing boxes. These are vital if you want your items to be arrive safe and sound.
You Can Mix and Match
You know what, a DIY move does not have to be done by you all the way. Perhaps you will need some help with transporting the items, or you will need appropriate packing supplies. Maybe you need a hand with packing as well. At that point you can call a moving company and ask them for the partial services they offer. If the company is reputable, they will not refuse to give you a hand in whatever you need.
