We all love to plan everything out, but sometimes life hits us sideways and unexpected things happen. As unfortunate as that is, we have to adapt to survive, right? But what happens when you have to depend on other people?
Moving by yourself is not an easy task, but it may very well be your only option, if you have to move on short notice. Moving is stressful all on its own, but when you add the additional pressure of a close deadline, things can escalate off the roof. But we have 5 tips to help you manage such stress and punch through the deadline that’s breathing down your neck.
#1 Call a Moving Company ASAP
Too often this won’t help you – most moving companies require that you call at least a few weeks in advance. However, you may be lucky enough to hit a recently vacated spot, who knows? And sometimes the moving companies may not be as busy, so again – try your luck.
Our professional H2H Movers tip is to try moving on a weekday (Tuesday-Wednesday preferably) as most people don’t schedule moves on these days, so you may find a blank spot with a reputable moving company. Remember that if you are looking for Chicago movers you can always depend on H2H Movers for your job.
#2 Don’t Waste Time Looking for Boxes and Supplies
Most people start collecting boxes the moment they know they’ll be moving. But you don’t have that luxury if you have to move quickly. Your best option is to either buy sturdy cardboard boxes or to rent plastic ones. This again depends on how much time and money you have to deal with.
#3 Get a Pen and Paper
When we are pressed by time, we often forget things. Get a pen and paper and write down everything you want moved. In short – create a checklist.
There are two ways to approach this. The first is to start packing room by room and write down everything you put inside a box. The second is prior to packing, you write down the most important things you want with you, then figure how to pack them, then write down everything else you put inside the boxes.
#4 Get As Many Friends As Possible
Let’s be honest – doing all of this alone can be crushing. Call your friends and ask for help. Ideally you want a few of them to help you get everything done much quickly. They can not only help you with packing, but assist you in creating your checklist and even organizing the move.
You can even skip on a moving company if you have enough friends and a large enough vehicle to move all your stuff. That is if you don’t have furniture to move, of course.
#5 Just Breathe
We know it can be stressful, but when you start feeling overwhelmed in the rush, just slow down and breathe. You can get everything done in time, don’t worry. Just think about your health and don’t rush things unnecessarily.
