While moving is definitely a part of our American lives, sometimes it happens for such mundane reasons that we grow to hate it. If your workplace relocates, oftentimes you are bound to do that, too, if you don’t want to spend two additional hours in traffic. And if your rent costs get to high, you are probably going to look for a decent place somewhere close, which you can afford. Other things may require a local move as well (such as your family growing, your salary rising and so on), so here are our top 5 tips on how to do it painlessly. And if at any point along the way you need some moving help, don’t forget to give us a call – we are a company with professional Chicago movers, who can take care of all your moving needs.

Tip #1: Don’t Rush It!

Throughout our experience many people have told us that moving locally often seems like a rush. They just want to find another place for whatever reason and oftentimes they just pick the first one that they like and suits their budget. You’d be surprised how many people actually do that! But this is our top tip right here – don’t rush it! Look around, and pick your top 5 places that you may move into and sort them to your liking. Don’t just consider things like rent cost and room layout. Think about how close it is to your work, if you have to depend on public transportation and so on.

Tip #2: Book Your Movers ASAP

Although you may want to move by yourself, there are times when this is impossible. Sure, some friends may be able to help you, but organizing them can take a long time. Our tip? If you suspect you will end up hiring movers altogether, do it as soon as possible. Why? Because in big cities, such as Chicago, movers are often very busy and most reputable ones can’t operate on a short schedule. So don’t risk it.

Tip #3: Pack In Advance

Now this applies to pretty much any kind of moving, but we cannot stress it enough. If you are not depending on your movers to do the packing for you, then by all means do it in advance a couple of days prior to the move. Most of the time packing takes you more time than you think, and you may end up with a subpar packing, which will only make unpacking that much more difficult, tedious and downright exhausting.

Tip #4: Take Some Days Off

We cannot stress this enough – don’t rush everything on the weekend. Not only will you have harder time doing it, but you will burn yourself out for the week to come. So it is better to take a day or two off, schedule your moving accordingly, and do everything without much stress. You will have plenty of time to pack, move and unpack, and you will be properly rested for your Monday routine.

Tip #5: Only The Things You Need

One of the biggest mistakes people make when moving, is to move with all their junk they will never use, but will just store in the closet to take it out for their next move. So hear us out – Just. Throw. Your. Junk. Out. This will save you on moving costs and will make the how move less bothersome.
