Moving to a new home is exciting, but as the moving date approaches, things can get stressful—especially during the final month prior to the move when the boxes are piling up!
This “must-do” list will help keep you organized and reduce the chaos.
Notify USPS
You can begin by getting a “change of address form” from the post office, or filling out the form online at the USPS website. This will allow you to inform the U.S. Postal Service about your new address and the precise date you wish for the mail to be sent to that particular address.

Transfer your utilities
First, make a list of all of your utility companies and clear your current bills. Be sure to have your pin number and account number handy when transferring your services. This is also a great time to ask questions of your providers to reevaluate your service packages—and even consider other providers that may offer better rates.
Notify delivery services
Inform any delivery services—newspapers and magazines, for instance—about your address change. This includes online food ordering services—be sure to update your accounts with your new address.
Pack important documents
While packing your stuff before the move make it a point to organize all your documents. Ensure that you do not misplace any important documents such as your social security card, birth certificate, bank documents, will, insurance policy documents, medical records, etc. Once you are in your new home, keep them in a safe place. When moving, it’s better to carry such documents yourself instead of loading them in the mover’s truck, to prevent theft or loss.
Get moving help
If you are moving long distance or moving to another country be sure to make hotel reservations for stop-off points at least a month ahead of the actual date. Consider the necessary plans for friends who may be helping you move, or arrange to hire professional movers.
